Craig Dodson, Founder and Director of Development
Craig hails from the Annapolis, Maryland area and began racing bicycles at the elite level in 2001. Craig received his BS in Exercise Science from Shepherd University (2001), going on to earn an MA in Movement Science from Western New Mexico University (2007). Craig began with an idea scribbled on a napkin: what if you were to take driven, elite-level cyclists and develop them into civic leaders? He expanded this idea into a business plan in the fall of 2007. By the spring of 2008, Richmond Pro Cycling, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was born, and it's been an exciting and revolutionary project ever since.
In the fall of 2008, Craig was recognized by Outside Magazine/Crocs Footwear as an Inspiring Sole- an award that “recognizes everyday athletes dedicated to inspiring change and involving others through bold athletic endeavors.” Craig has been invited as a guest speaker for the Governor's Greenway Council (VA), The Cycle of Influence Conference (CA), Richmond Dentist Group Lecture (VA), Colony Insurance Lunch and Learn (VA), and over 40 different public and private school engagements, as well as numerous workshops and clinics for Richmond-area cycling clubs and associations.
Craig was also a columnist for ROAD Magazine (2007-2009), building a loyal readership for his avant-garde writing style, as well as for his criticism of U.S. cycling's customary approach to athlete development. Craig attributes his early writings for ROAD as the initial energy towards his vision in creating Richmond Pro Cycling.
